The Armenian Government to give two March 1st victims 24,600 Euros

The European Court of Human Rights announced its decision based on the case surrounding Mushegh Saghatelyan, a protestor from the morning of March 1, 2008 on Freedom Square in Yerevan, and based on his imprisonment after showing resistance towards police officers. The European Court demanded that the Armenian government compensate him 15,600 Euros for causing him moral damage, as well as 5,000 Euros to cover court expenses.

According to the European Court of Human Rights, the Armenian government did not avoid torture, and it also violated the rights of freedom and personal immunity. The European Court demanded that the government also pay victim Vardges Gaspari 4,000 euros in moral damages. Vardges Gaspari filed a case on September 10, 2008, based on article 34 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
